ARE YOU AVAILABLE TO PHOTOGRAPH MY WEDDING?
I’m currently taking some time off of photographing weddings. Thank you for asking though! If you’re in the mood to look at some of my favorite wedding images then be sure to head over to my wedding gallery, here.
WHAT ABOUT OTHER TYPES OF SESSIONS/COMMISSIONS?
Currently, I’m focusing on teaching photography, speaking, and writing but I also have limited availability for editorial assignments.
WHAT FIRES YOU UP?
Crazy pretty light.
Meeting interesting people.
My nutty kids.
Sunrises and starry nights on the beach.
Picking fresh fruit from my garden.
Dancing like a fool.
Driving with the windows down and music up.
That post-workout endorphin rush.
Dropping in on a crumbly little wave and riding it all the way down the line.
WHAT IS A MENTORING SESSION?
Mentoring sessions are one-on-one sessions for us to get to know one another and work towards your goals. For more info, head over here.
ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ANY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS?
I’m a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) as well as a professional member of the American Society of Media Professionals (ASMP).
HOW DID YOU GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
My background is actually in engineering, and photography was a hobby for many years. While working in Washington, DC I was able to hone my skills through courses at the Smithsonian Institution and the Art League School. After having my first child I moved back to FL to be closer to family. Since then, I have studied photography through online courses and in-person workshops and also started a program through the Stanford Graduate School of Business to further my small business knowledge. The transition from a hobbyist to a professional photographer occurred in 2009 and I’ve loved every second since!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I consider myself a documentary photographer for adventurous souls. I draw inspiration from many different places and try to implement them in my images. I love the raw emotion of photojournalism as well as the more polished look of editorial photography. I believe in pretty lighting, incredible backgrounds and choosing locations very carefully. During weddings I am an observer most of the time with very limited intrusion, only when it is desired to achieve a particular artistic vision.
DO YOU HAVE A STUDIO?
Since most of my work has always been on location, I work out of a home office at the east end of Panama City Beach. I will occasionally meet with clients there, but prefer to meet on-site, where there are fewer rambunctious kids demanding Holly’s attention. I’m always open to Skyping as well!
DO YOU SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
During the years I spent a hobbyist photographer, I shot exclusively with film and spent many a night working in the darkroom; this experience has given me an appreciation for photography as a form of art. Although I’ve been known to still pick up my 35mm camera for fun, I find that the creative latitude that digital gives is beyond comparison. When I shoot, I not only shoot for the moment, but have a clear vision of what the finished image will look like. By shooting digitally, the possibilities are limitless!
