kelly & keith (married)

We sat there, staring at the screen, complete strangers. Neither of us knew what to say, but I had been put on the spot to help provide a few minutes of idle chit-chat, so that’s what I did. We talked about what the weather was like on the outside and I tried to listen to details of his daily routine, although I had to strain to understand through the high-pitch tones. Growing up around Navy divers, I had always been impressed by not only their strength but their smarts. But that conversation I had with a man locked in a hyperbaric chamber for a month left an indelible impression. These men (and women) know a heck of a lot about perseverance, strength of character, and commitment; a commitment not only to their job but to God, country, and their families.

When I met Keith and Kelly I was immediately struck by how cute they were together. That was obvious to anyone. But as I stood by them on their wedding day, I was reminded of the diver I had shared a few minutes with years before. The seriousness with which they took their vows. The commitment they expressed to one another. The formality and significance of the ceremony. Two separate times during their wedding day I found myself not only moved to tears but boo-hooing like a baby. I tried to explain it to my husband that night, but the only way I could describe it is that I felt the presence of God there. From the way a rainbow magically appeared out the window directly in front of them during their first dance to how their vows managed to leave nary a dry eye in the room. Witnessing it all was something special, and I felt privileged that they had entrusted me to document their day. Kelly & Keith – I wish you all many years of love, commitment and happiness.
